GUMBOHEAD is a St. Louis-based collective of rhythmic rapscallions and tuneful tricknologists who find great joy playing music born in and influenced by New Orleans and southwest Louisiana.

To hear the band is to experience the full spectrum of Louisiana dance music, including zydeco, funk, blues, jazz, r&b and traditional “second line” tunes, featuring songs by such artists as Dr. John, Buckwheat Zydeco, the Meters, Chubby Carrier, Jon Cleary, the Neville Brothers, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Iguanas, Galactic, Clifton Chenier and the inimitable Professor Longhair –– as well as a number of suitably spicy originals.

Gumbohead has opened for several of these legendary performers including the Nevilles, the Dirty Dozen, Terrance Simien, Chubby Carrier, Jon Cleary and Buckwheat Zydeco. Recently, the band was invited to play a private fundraiser in New Orleans with John Boutte and Paul Sanchez, Papa Grows Funk, Rebirth Brass Band, Papa Mali, Shamarr Allen and The Radiators that helped raise more than $24,000 for the NOMC.

Every gig is a full-blown, bead-tossing Mardi Gras throwdown, guaranteed to make you shake everything you've got! To get on our e-mail list, click on CONTACT and let us know you'd like to be added. We promise, no spam.
